1. What is collage?
Collage technique in art consisting of cutting and pasting natural or manufactured materials to a painted or unpainted surface.
2. Research 2 of the above collage techniques on google. Which one appeals to you the most and why?
Cubomania is the one that appeals me most because of its textured full pieces. I like the collage that contains realism and different shapes and vivid photographs such as this live example of “Cubomanium” collage.

3. What is cubism? Give a general definition.
Cubism is a surrealist movement by turning artwork into square or cubic form and shape, the objects are no long smooth and curved.
4. How did it start?
It started in 20th Century and was influenced by the I5th Century Italian Renaissance and the I6th Century Italian High Renaissance. It was the invention of Picasso and Braque, since they started to exclude all but the formal elements of art: line, shape, and color to create a new movement of art.
5. What is analytical cubism? Name a piece of analytical cubist artwork.
Analytic cubists “analyzed” natural forms and reduced the forms into basic geometric parts on the two-dimensional picture plane. Colour was almost non-existent except for the use of a monochromatic scheme that often included grey, blue and ochre.

6. What is synthetic cubism? Name a piece of synthetic cubist artwork.
Synthetic cubism is a natural extension of Analytic Cubism. Instead of breaking a subject down into pieces, it involved assembling pieces already available into a collage.

Juan Gris’ work is more realistic and meaning full as well. The object that he He also liked to use dull colors, so it creates a warm feeling.
8. Do you like cubism? Why or why not explain using the vocabulary of the elements and principles of design.
I do not like cubism that much because of the colour that artists have used are only dull and always painted with one or few colours. Since I’m a big fan of colours, shapes and rhythm, I would defiantly use more dark and light colour and texture to make my art work more attractive.
9. You are to create a cubist self-portrait in PhotoShop using your photographs of yourself. Do you think you will use analytical or synthetic cubism? Why or why not?
If I have to choose one of this cubism then I would definitely go with analytical cubism. Even though it contains all dull colours, it appeals to the audience most in my perspective. However, analytical cubism includes particular colours such as grey, blue and ochre. It focuses on forms like the cylinder, sphere and the cone to represent the natural world, so I think I should try not to use vivid colour and give a try to increase my productivity in particular collage.
